Privacy & Data Usage Statement
For 31social Members
The "Plain English" Summary
We ask for information about your cultural background and holiday preferences for two simple reasons:
-
Better Parties: We want to celebrate what matters to you. Knowing your traditions helps us build a calendar that actually reflects our members.
-
A Balanced Community: We strive to be an inclusive space. Understanding our demographics helps us ensure we are reaching out to all communities equally.
Sharing this information is 100% optional.
Detailed Data Policy
1. Information We Collect
Beyond standard contact information (name, email), our membership forms may ask for:
- Cultural Interests & Holidays: Which traditions you celebrate or would like to see represented at the club.
- Cultural Heritage (Optional): How you identify your background.
2. How We Use This Information
We treat demographic and cultural data with the highest level of sensitivity. It is used exclusively for the following internal purposes:
- Event Planning: To curate a social calendar that honors the specific traditions of our current membership base (e.g., organizing a St. Patrick’s Day event if we have a significant number of members interested in Irish culture).
- Diversity Monitoring: To analyze the makeup of our club in aggregate (e.g., "Group X makes up 20% of our membership"). This helps us identify if specific communities are underrepresented so we can improve our outreach efforts.
3. How We Do NOT Use This Information
- No Discrimination: Individual cultural data is never used to approve, deny, or restrict membership access.
- No Selling: We never sell, trade, or rent member demographic data to third parties, advertisers, or political organizations.
4. Data Anonymity & Aggregation
When we discuss our club's diversity (e.g., in annual reports or board meetings), we use aggregated data only. Your individual response is dissociated from your name in these reports.
Example: We might report "15% of members celebrate Lunar New Year," but we will not produce a list of specific names attached to that statistic.
5. Your Right to Privacy (Voluntary Disclosure)
Providing information regarding your cultural heritage or holiday preferences is strictly voluntary.
- You may skip these questions during registration without penalty.
- You may ask to have this specific data removed from your profile at any time while keeping your membership active.
6. Contact Us
If you have questions about how your data is stored or used, please contact our Membership Officer at membership@31social.ca.
